Toddler Pumpkin
All in all a successful Halloween. Ben got 4 pieces of candy, went to a community Halloween party, and got to show off his costume to many adoring fans. In a slight miscalculation, we have 3 bags of candy that don’t look like they’re going to be given out.
No commentsWheat Bread
So this is a working Whole Wheat bread. Not bitter, not too dry, and good texture. Similar to the previous white bread in that it’s mixed wet and rises in the fridge.
3c flour, 1/2 bread, 1/2 wheat. Add 1/2 cup barley that’s soaked in water for a couple of hours, 1 tsp yeast, and mix in just under 2 cups of water. This should be a batter like dough. Let Rest 20 minutes.
Change to the dough hook, knead 5 minutes. Add 1/2c bread flour, knead 5 minutes. Add 1/2c wheat, knead 5 minutes. Add 1/3c steel cut oats and 2 tsp salt, knead till mixed. If it’s still soft, add 1/4 cups of flour and knead till it’s reasonably stiff. Rest 20 minutes, knead a bit more, then pop into a greased container, oil the top and cover with plastic wrap. Into the fridge for a day or three, until an hour or two before baking.
Form into loaf, slash, and pop in oven quickly. 425 for 15 minutes, 350 for 30.
No commentsMoving Manila — The Frontier-side Scripts
These three scripts are the Manila server side counterparts to the getPics, getShortcuts, and getPosts scripts in the MvManila 2.5 package.
Of these, I’d recommend using the shortcut one if possible, since it is a faithful port of the originals, which are hampered by the one big rpc call to get all the shortcuts in one go.
The picture one creates the same file as the original, but does not extract the binary images. I’m using static image hosting, so there really was no need to extract them from the database. This might not work properly for you if you’re not using static image serving.
And finally, the getPosts. It’s the least faithful, and if you’ve got a newer Manila site, you may not need it. I skipped all news items, since in my site they were a really funky calendar of upcoming events. Comments are rare on my site, so all the commenter’s names became ‘Commenter’, but their emails were preserved for the admin. If you need it, it’s probably a good start, but it’s assembly required. I needed this because quite a lot of my posts just didn’t make it through the xml-rpc interface.
